Anyone in the IT industry can relate to the term ‘agility’ one way or the other. But, what is ‘Cloud Agility’?

According to Bernard Golden from CIO.com, Cloud Agility means rapid provisioning of computer resources using cloud computing. I always believe the two major purposes of cloud computing are: it helps you get started immediately, and you can pay only for what you use. For a CIO, these two are always on top of their priority list to take any decisions in this modern IT world. So, from my point of view, Cloud Agility means adopting to secure cloud services and managing your IT infrastructure on cloud to support faster application delivery and drive business agility.

Why Cloud Agility now?

Synergy Research Group found that the worldwide cloud computing market grew 28% to $110B in revenues in 2015. It’s interesting to note that out of which the public Iaas/Paas and private & hybrid cloud infrastructure services topped the growth charts by 51% and 45% respectively. Another study from Statistica says, in 2016, spending on public cloud ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ hardware and software is forecast to reach $38B, growing to $173B in 2026. These stats breakdown the common perception of only startups and small/mid-size companies move to cloud infrastructure. It shows that, today, more and more global enterprises and large-scale businesses are moving to the cloud to save cost and time. So, to stay au courant and ahead of competition, organizations should embrace cloud agility and transform their IT infrastructure on cloud.
