We are on the threshold of a compelling, expansive and imaginative time in which our experiences and our reality are being expanded through the merging of the physical and virtual worlds. Immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are changing how we connect with information, experiences and each other. Augmented reality (AR) in retail has gained a lot of traction in the past few years.
As digital activities become more significant, the enhancement of in-store capabilities and flat screen interfaces with immersive shopping experiences provided by such technologies could become the next essential step in creating the next generation of customer experiences.
Statistics from Retail Perceptions show that 61% of shoppers prefer stores which offer augmented reality experiences, 71% would return more often and 40% would pay more for a product if they could experience it in AR.
Combining in-store shopping with AR could provide retailers an opportunity to connect with customers at the deeper level in order to shake up the customer experience by individualized offers, targeted product offering and even virtualizing merchandise in-store.
